搭乘捷運至市政府站。國家歌劇院(National Taichung Theater)是由曾獲普立茲克獎的日本建築師伊東豊雄(Toyo Ito)所設計，在高樓林立的七期重劃區中顯得別具一格，而國家歌劇院正面猶如酒壺般的曲線造型使它多了一個「壺中居」的美名。
在這座國家歌劇院內，有大、中、小三座專業的劇場以及一個多功能空間「角落沙龍」。整個歌劇院以「美聲涵洞」的概念進行設計，採用曲牆、孔洞與管狀等獨樹一幟的設計，使整棟建築完全沒有樑柱支撐，也無一處為90度牆面，顛覆了一般建築物的概念。

歌劇院地板下暗藏機關，鋪有冰水管線，不僅可以大幅降低空間溫度，還能透過地板的出風口送出冷空氣，使冷氣維持在地面以上2公尺處，約是一個成年人的高度，以維持恆溫，達到舒適效果。
