其實，追分(Zhuifen)這個地名的意思並不是「追求分數」，它是日文「おいわけ」(oiwake)的漢字，意思是鐵路海線與山線的「分歧處」。從這裡往南有一條鐵道通往彰化，另一條是往成功連接山線鐵道。
追分車站是檜木建造的古蹟車站，1922年完工，已有百年歷史。它的屋頂像中國式建築，鋪著日式黑瓦，木造窗架卻有西方建築風格，ㄚ型廊柱支撐的簷廊環繞整個站體，主要功能是遮雨，卻也為車站增添了不少美感。
